Stephen Barter qualified in 1985 from Guys Hospital, London. He completed a programme of postgraduate oral surgery and orthodontic training and is a GDC registered Specialist in Oral Surgery. He has been involved in oral surgery for over 30 years and dental implants for 25 years. He established Perlan Specialist Dental Centre in 2007. This is a multidisciplinary dental specialist centre well-known for excellent in all aspects of dental care. Stephen's career advancement and experience in complex case management has been achieved through worldwide study, including advanced training at the Straumann Clinic, University of Bern.
Stephen has been an ITI Fellow for over 20 years with the following activity: Former UK Section Chairman, serving on ITI Committees, ITI Consensus Conference member, Treatment Guide Editor, Speaker Library and Online Academy contributor and reviewer, National Congress and World Symposium Scientific Committee member, and an ITI mentor and trainer for over two decades, teaching seminars and courses. He spent ten years as a lecturer and specialist oral surgeon in the Department of Periodontology at the Eastman Dental Institute in London. He is now a senior lecturer and consultant oral surgeon at the Centre for Oral Clinical Research, Institute of Dentistry, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, London.
He is a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals, including Clinical Oral Implants Research and Forum Implantologicum, has published in peer-reviewed journals and has contributed book chapters. He is co-author of ITI Treatment Guide 9 - Implant Therapy in the Geriatric Patient and is now an editor of the ITI Treatment Guide series.
Stephen is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Fellow of the Straumann Clinic, University of Berne, Switzerland, a member of the British Association of Oral Surgeons and a member of the European Association of Osseointegration. He lectures nationally and internationally, and has presented at many major international conferences.
