Dr. Robert A. Levine is a board-certified periodontist as well as one of the pioneers of the “immediate load” (SameDay Smile®) revolution in dental implants. He maintains a full time private practice in Philadelphia focusing on Surgical Implant Placement, Periodontal Plastic Surgery Procedures, Reconstructive and Regenerative Therapy, LANAP®, LAPIP® and Pinhole® Surgical Technique. Dr. Levine is presently a Clinical Professor in Post-Graduate Periodontics and Dental Implantology at the Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Dept. of Periodontics and Implantology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Dentistry. He is Chairman Emeritus, Division of Periodontics, at Albert Einstein Medical Center (1984-2003).
Dr. Levine is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow of the College of Physicians in Philadelphia, a Fellow of the International Society of Periodontal Plastic Surgeons and a Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology of Basel Switzerland and was one of 100 representatives from around the world invited to participate in the ITI 4th Consensus Conference, Bern, Switzerland, 2013, the ITI 5th CC, Stuttgart, Germany, 2008 and the 6th ITI CC, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2018 to establish treatment protocols for implant dentistry worldwide. He has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally, serves on the editorial boards of numerous international scientific dental journals and has authored over 80 articles and five book chapters on periodontics, periodontal and regenerative surgical procedures, periodontal plastic surgery, dental implants and LANAP® periodontal therapy.
He is President, Founder and Co-Program Chairman of the Northeast Philadelphia Dental Implant and Perio-Prosthesis Study Club, Co-Founder of the Greater Philadelphia Dental Hygiene Study Club and Director and Program Chairman of the Philadelphia Tri-State ITI Study Club. Additionally, Dr. Levine shares his knowledge and 30 plus years’ experience with periodontal, prosthodontic and GP residencies throughout the country as a visiting professor and mentor.
Dr. Levine is also involved as Co-Director of the “Growing Smiles Foundation,” which he co-founded in 2013 with daughter, Dr. Bari Levine-Lev, wife, Dr. Sheryl Radin and son, Dr. Ross Levine who are all pediatric dentists practicing at Growing Smiles of Floral Vale (Yardley, PA). This is a NPO which provides comprehensive free dentistry to children and adults to which they would not otherwise have had access in Lima, Peru. The outreach missions which include the Levine family and dental students from the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University and UPC Dental School (Lima, Peru) have provided over $150,000 yearly in comprehensive free dental services.
A special passion is Dr. Levine’s 25+ year involvement with the 69th Pennsylvania Regiment Civil War Reenactment Group. Dr. Levine plays guitar with the 69th Pennsylvania Irish Volunteers – a Civil War Band. The regiment and band have raised more than $100,000 from donations/performances/sales of their two acclaimed musical Irish Civil War CDs, “Rock of Erin” (2002) and “In Their Honor” (2006). The band was also featured in the locally produced feature film “Placebo”(2006, Anomaly pictures). All proceeds are donated for Civil War battlefield preservation, Civil War tombstone dedications on Veterans’ Day (close to 150 ceremonies to date) and educational grants to promote the teaching and preservation of American and Irish history. Dr. Levine and his wife, Sheryl, have personally become actively involved in preservation efforts at numerous Civil War sites including Gettysburg, PA, Raymond, MS, Franklin, TN, New Bern, NC and Glendale, VA.
